beata-pyrzynska

Beata Pyrzynska graduated from the Warsaw University with MSc degree in biology. As a Ph.D student at the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology in Warsaw she gained her first international research experience as a TEMPUS fellow at the Institute of General Pathology, Perugia, Italy. She received also the short-term fellowship from EMBO to collaborate with the National Center of Biotechnology (CNB) in Madrid. In Poland Mrs. Pyrzynska was recognized as a young outstanding scientist by the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP). She received numerous travel awards from FEBS and the Foundation of Experimental and Clinical Oncology. Her Ph.D. thesis dissertation (2001) was awarded at the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology.

In 2002 Dr. Pyrzynska was recruited to the Winship Cancer Institute, Emory University, Atlanta, USA, to work as a postdoctoral fellow in the Laboratory of Molecular Neuro-Oncology. Her work was awarded by the research fellowships from NATO and from the American Brain Tumor Association. In 2006 Dr. Pyrzynska returned to Poland to work at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw. She brought the experience in cancer biology to study the signal transduction pathways originated at the endocytic compartments and influencing different aspects of tumor growth. Recently she was recruited under the BASTION program to work as an experienced scientist at the Department of Immunology, Medical University of Warsaw.

Over the years Dr Pyrzynska has conducted the research in cancer biology and cancer therapeutics fields. She studied the regulation of cellular signaling leading to changes in gene expression and tumorigenesis. Beside the basic methods of molecular and cell biology she had the opportunity to gain some experience in bioinformatics, microarray technique and proteomics. She is an author and co-author of the research articles published in the international journals like JBC, Oncogene, Cancer Res., Mol Oncol., J Clin Invest., J Cell Sci.
