PhD, in 2005 graduated from the faculty of Biotechnology, Warsaw University of Life Sciences. In the course of the study he was interested in the cytogenetic identification of transgenic DNA fragments in genetically modified plants. During the last academic year he studied at the Hiroshima University being a recipient of scholarship granted by the Japanese government. In the years 2005-2009 as a research associate at the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology CMKP, he was developing methods of analysis in research focusing on the identification of genetic risk markers of inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Dr Gaj has continued his research in the field of population genetics focusing on genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of genetic risk markers in cancer (colon cancer, prostate cancer), and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. Besides the research in the field of population genetics, his is also interested in the use of next-generation sequencing techniques NGS to identify the genetic variants responsible for rare inherited diseases. Dr Paweł Gaj is the author of a number of original research papers and the leading author of six articles.
In April 2013 he joined the Bioinformatics Group led by Dr Radoslaw Zagożdżon at the Department of Immunology WUM.
